Abstract

Depth of field is a remarkable thing. For instance, near and far objects can be rendered with
sharpness, while objects in background or in foreground can be blurred. When rendering with low depth of
field, animators can express a powerful rendered image simply by focusing certain character in front of the
camera and blur the rest of the background. The aim of this research is to study the technique of applying
depth of field in 3D animation especially in terms of rendering and give exposure to the people that applying
this technique caneasily be achieved in 3D rendering. Also, it will inspire local animators or animation
directors to apply the technique of 3D animated techniques through high-res rendering with depth of field
(DOF)and hopefully that consequentially it will bring exposure and knowledge to the people on how
magical this tool is toachieve the appearance and feel of film.
