Financial performance in the incidence of Covid-19 – evidence of Nifty-50

Abstract

The rapid outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID -19) presents an alarming health crisis that the world is grappling with. The impacts of the COVID -19 pandemic are unfolding in real time.  The COVID -19 out break has already had a significant effect on the economies of affected countries and international financial markets. As the companies in India approach their year - end, there is an urgent need to evaluate the impacts of the outbreak on their accounting and financial reporting. Therefore the present study mainly focuses on ascertain and examine the pre and present financial performance of selected companies in nifty -50. The study use profitability parameters and market price of selected companies to know the significant relationship & changes among the variables. The study period is considered for 6months from January – June. Analysis mainly depends on quantitative test – paired t test, paired correlation and descriptive statistics were used. The study conclude that energy, consumer goods, cement and financial services have performed better and found significant match between pre and present situation of Covid-19.
