Enhancing Underwater Images using fusion of Wavelength Compensation Image Dehazing and Wavelet Transform

Abstract

In this paper we optimize the underwater image enhancement technique by combining Wavelength Compensation and Image Dehazing (WCID) and Wavelet Transformation Technique. Scope of our research is restricted to only for underwater image enhancement and then combining the WCID and wavelet transform image enhancement techniques to get optimized result. We explore and optimize the need of underwater image enhancement techniques by combining WCID and wavelet transform. DWT form of wavelet transform divides the image into the different sub bands. WCID use to process the low sub band by applying dehazing and then colour correction process to get enhanced image. Our efforts on these underwater images are demonstrated by analysing the performance of these combined approaches of WCID and wavelet transform. Experimental results show that better quality of images using the combination of WCID and wavelet transform as compare to existing techniques like AHE  and Dark channel prior (DCP). Also, it was observed that better PSNR and MSE values in proposed method as compared to existing methods.
