7-Level Transformers Integrated Voltage Source Converter Based STATCOM for Voltage Profile Enhancement

Abstract

This paper presents the proposed Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) operation of a 7-level voltage source converter (VSC) with binary weighted transformers. The 7-level VSC fulfills the objective of reactive power control as well as terminal voltage changes in the system. The STATCOM is operated at 132kV, 50Hz ac system with single DC link capacitance and two VSC bridges. Each VSC consists of three H-bridges with specific switching angle control to achieve low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at the fundamental frequency. On observing simulation results, it is analyzed that the proposed model is improving the system stability and enhanced the system performance.
