Fluid Dynamics ? A Broad Review Of Developments And Applications

Abstract

Fluid dynamics has played a significant role in a broad spectrum of practical applications. Fluid dynamics revolves around analysing the basic properties of fluid flow like velocity, pressure, density and temperature in different media and boundary conditions. Initially the research was done with Newtonian fluid flows, but with time, it was realized that most of the practical situations and applications were based on Non-Newtonian fluids and their study gained more significance. In general, the governing equations of an experiment are expressed mathematically and they are solved analytically or numerically. As most of these equations involve numerical methods, advances in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has facilitated in the ease of solving and getting faster iterations for experiments. Fluid Dynamics and CFD find use in varied applications across sectors like Industrial, Physiological, Environmental etc. This paper intends to give a broad review of fluid flow studies and its various applications, how they have evolved over time including use of CFD and discuss some future trends.
