Design of High Power Factor Electronic Ballast

Abstract

In this paper electronic ballast with series resonant converter is analyzed. It has high power factor integrated buck halfbridge ballast. In order to satisfy the IEEE standards, power factor correction is implemented using dc-dc buck converter which is operated at constant frequency. The operation of the electronic ballast is done using the analysis of the converter. Then the proposed resonant converter for the electronic ballast is designed. The proposed converter is simulated to analyze its characteristics. A 40W prototype is developed and the results are compared with the simulated output. The results show a better performing lamp for the consumers.
