Abstract

Logistics functions in the armed forces is to fulfill the necessary requirement of supplies for the support of establishments and troops. Therefore, the armed forces has their own logistics support system in ensuring the logistics requirements are supplied across the theater which sometimes involve greater uncertainty under short notice. The logistics support system in the armed forces is managed through the main depot. This depot functions include acquisition, inventory planning, movement and transportation. Nevertheless, there is a factor that needs to be considered which is the movement of the material. This study was conducted in Sabah to explore the logistics support and readiness of the areas where the main issue was related to the aging vehicles which have given a big impact in terms of transporting material from the main depot in Kota Kinabalu to all the military camps and bases scattered around Sabah. Given the scenario, many of these vehicles have reached 10 years of service and have to travel as far as 531 km from Semporna to Kota Kinabalu with poor road condition. This study engaged a qualitative approach in identifying the risk in associating the status of military vehicles readiness and interoperability. A semi-structured interview was conducted with the military logisticians who are also the Subject Matter Expert. This study has identified the risk level of military logistics support where in this situation it is more critical since the aging transport were used on a long distance rural road.
