Abstract

In present era of digitization, wireless networking has become essential element of humans’ life. Handover is a crucial stage which highly affects the performance of wireless network. Amongst various parameters affecting network performance during handover, mobility is one of the prominent issues. Wireless nodes are energy constrained devices and so it is highly favorable to reduce the power consumption of nodes in mobile environment to enhance the network performance. This paper presented evaluation of power consumption of wireless nodes owing to the mobility of the nodes. Vertical handover simulation between WiFi and WiMAX network was carried out for two sets of nodes namely Type-I and Type-II nodes and three different voltage levels were considered for evaluating initial energy levels of nodes. The performance of network was measured in terms of average throughput, packet delivery ratio and residual energy levels of the nodes.
