Abstract

Foreign direct investment (FDI) plays an important role in the economic
development of a country and becomes a mechanism for economic growth. This article
examines the factors that determine foreign direct investment (FDI) in selected countries.
According to World Bank statistics, the data set from 2000 to 2018 was studied. The selected
empirical model is based on theories of foreign investment and empirical research on the
subject. Due to the availability of data, the selected countries were divided into 4 groups
(developed economies, developing countries, transition economies, and low-income
countries). The results of the study show that trade openness is an important factor for the
inflow of direct investment in selected countries.
