Applying 8-Bit Predictor and Block Adaptive on Sequential Medical images for Lossless Compression Technique
Abstract
This paper presents an adaptive lossless compression technique that depends on block-based coding approach to compress sequence of 8-bit medical images. The contribution of the proposed compression scheme is obvious in the ability of selecting the proper threshold, which is used to predict the optimal block size to apply coding stage. A gradient-based edge detector is utilized combining by adaptive algorithm for block coding, and they are enhanced by experiment results to determine the value of a universal threshold and suitable block size. The performance of the proposed compression scheme is benchmarked with state of the art in lossless compression. Conducted experiments showed that proposed technique significantly reduced inter- pixel and coding redundancy base on bpp values. Proposed technique provided more efficiency, in term of coding, than other standard techniques such as CALIC and JPEG-LS by 0.7 % 4.62 differences respectively.
