Abstract

. Every country must have to maintain their international relations. To maintain
relations with other countries, every country possesses certain policies. India’s Look-East
Policy is one among them. Look-East Policy is mainly constructed to strengthen relations
with the countries of South-East Asia. Though the various Prime Ministers have given their
importance to come closer with South-East Asian Countries, but in 1991 it has given a formal
shape through making Look East Policy. After capturing power, the Modi Government
renamed it as Act East policy. The success of Look -East Policy lies in the development of
North-Eastern region. This region acts as a gateway to South -East Asia, which is a very vital
element to Look-East Policy. Look-East Policy is considered as a part of North Eastern
Region Vision 2020. But there are various challenges that Look - East Policy face. One of the
major aspects to maintain good relation with other countries is trade. But there is no
impressive expansion of trade with South-East Asian neighbours & it also observed that India
has given importance to maintain good relation with East Asian countries but ignored the
importance of North-East in this regard. This paper focuses on the challenges that Look East
Policy face in the time of its implementation
