Abstract

This paper presents the development of band layer design and electrical properties of earth-abundant thin film solar cell. This work is based on physical parameters of direct bandgap materials: Cadmium Sulfide (CdS) compound and Copper Zinc Tin Sulfide (CZTS). In this work, the band diagram design results for N-CdS/p-CZTS heterojunction solar cells are approved by the parameters of the material. The electrical characteristics of N-CdS/p-CZTS hetero structure for solar cell are analyzed by using the J-V characteristics based on the depletion width of active region, the fill factor and the efficiency. The mathematical equations of the electrical characteristics of the solar cell have been implemented by computer based simulation method. The band layer design for N-CdS/p-CZTS heterojunction structure confirmed the high quality thin film solar cell for real applications.  CZTS is the low toxicity, cost effectiveness and more efficient material suitable for terrestrial applications and optoelectronic semiconductor devices.
