Rural Poverty in Assam : Causes and Remedies

Abstract

- Poverty can be defined as a social phenomenon in which a section of the society is unable to fulfill even its basic necessities of life.  Rural poverty refers to poverty found in rural areas, including factors of rural society, rural economy, and rural political systems that give rise to the poverty found there. Poverty is a global phenomena, but like poverty in general, there are higher rates of rural poverty in developing countries than in developed countries. Rural poverty is a significance issue in Assam. Geographical factors, Biological factors, economic factors, social factors, political factors and personal factors are the main causes of rural poverty in Assam. The present paper makes an attempt to analyze the causes and remedies of rural poverty in Assam.
