Abstract

Multilevel inverter (MLI) is the present day generation of power converters for high and medium power/voltage applications. In order to generate high standard output without the demand of outsized number of switches, current research has a major spotlight on reduced switch configurations (RSC). Therefore, this paper suggested an 11 level single phase inverter with fewer switching elements, resulting in cost reductions and improved efficiency for renewable applications.  Though various multi carrier modulation strategies has been used, this work emphasis on hybrid multicarrier modulation technique (HMC-PWM) with unipolar reference (sine) wave. The selected reduced switch MLI has been simulated in Matlab/simulink environment. The performance parameters such as total harmonics distortion (THD), fundamental root mean square voltage (V0rms), and crest factor (CF) have been calculated for the different modulation indices to prove its supremacy.
