Abstract

Cr-substituted cobalt ferrite nanoparticles Co0.5Cu0.5Fe2-xCrxO4 with (x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20) are prepared by sol-gel method in which the as-burnt powders sintered at 1100 ?C for 4h. The structural properties of all prepared samples were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results confirm the spinel cubic structure. The crystallite size was reduced significantly with the Cr3+ ions substitution. The agglomeration of spherical and polyhedral shape with 22.15-33.25 nm size was shown in FE-SEM image. Two absorption bands are seen around 600 cm-1 and 400 cm-1 from FTIR study. The range corresponds to the tetrahedral and octahedral sites, respectively. The Cr3+ addition reduces the magnetic saturation and coercivity, which helps for its use in data storage.
