Abstract

Glass sand and glass powder is an alternative for partially replacement of river sand and cement due to high-speed rising construction industry, the demand for sand has increased extremely, causing deficiency of suitable river sand in most part of the word. Due to the depletion of good quality river sand for the use of construction, the use of glass sand has been increased. Another reason for use of glass sand is its availability and waste product glass material and costless. Since this glass sand can be produced from waste glass materials such as scrap materials. The scope of our project is to reduce the dead weight of the structure as well increase the strength of the concrete. So we developed light weight powder and sand by using waste and glass materials. We developed a concrete by using crushed glass bottles which is considered as light weight concrete. The partially replacement of glass sand with glass powder gives better compressive strength compared to the conventional concrete. The various percentage of replacing glass sand and glass powder such as 5%, 10%, 15% and 25%. The 28 days compressive strength, tensile strength and flexural strength is achieved by the partially replacement of 75% river sand + 25% of glass sand + 5% of glass powder concrete. 15% replacement of glass powder gives better durability performance compared with the conventional concrete.
