Abstract

Microgrids are gaining popularity as an alternative to the centralized grid infrastructure model. AC, DC and hybrid microgrids are finding application in off-grid, rural and remote areas or villages where the electricity grid has not yet reached and also where the supply of grid power is not reliable can be electrified using locally available renewable energy sources. The Portable Microgrid is one with solar PV and biodiesel generator as the source, Solar is given first priority and during the insufficiency of solar, diesel generator is used as auxiliary sources. Cumulative supply is possible according to the load requirements. In this proposed work, 48V DC Portable Microgrid System Integrating Solar PV and Bio-Diesel Generator are modelled using MATLAB/SIMULINK Software. To operate the hybrid microgrid under varying source and load conditions, load sharing controller algorithm is proposed to performed for power sharing applications. The proposed system simulated in Matlab/Simulink platform to investigate the performance under given loading conditions and results obtained satisfactorily.
