Abstract

Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) is the most faults tolerant among the electrical machines but
it is not absolute. Therefore condition monitoring is essential to avoid abnormalities in highly needed
applications like aerospace, servo drives etc. The paper deals with various degrees of inter turn faults in
stator windings of switched reluctance motor and its effect on basic characteristics current ,flux, torque and
induced voltage .This changes may leads to increase in copper losses ,which deteriorates the stator windings.
The analysis is useful in forecasting the fault severity to take appropriate remedies, so that it improves the
operational effectiveness and reliability. The effects of inter turn investigated with the help of Finite Element
Analysis (FEA) for levels of 10%,30%,50%,70% and 100%.This method is popularly used to solve
complicated structural ,thermal, electromagnetic problems in electrical engineering
