Linking Work Characteristics to Employee Engagement

Abstract

The study has attempted to explore the antecedents of employee engagement. The antecedents considered areWork load, Perceived supervisory support, Economic strain, Work environment, Physical strain, Job insecurity and Benefits which gives an outline for systematic valuesto the functional environment. Employee engagement brings out a whole new interest and approach in every employee towards the organization. The factors affecting engagementof employees working in small manufacturing units is specifically reflected in the study. The study is conducted with 200 employees working in small manufacturing units. The results suggest that support from supervisor, work overload, physical strain and job insecurity are negative predictors of employee engagement whereas economic strain has a positive impact. The study provides implications to managers to engage their employees in more effective way.
