Android Ransomware: Its Types, Spread and Detection Mechanisms

Abstract

Ransomware is the most terrible malware type responsible for the loss of data, money, and sometimes reputation. The possible reason behind its rise is the rise in mobile internet transactions This field has gained popularity among the research community as well. Researchers have framed out many solutions to identify, analyze, and detect such financial attacks. This study considered significant malware analysis and detection techniques from the year 2009 to 2018 to successfully present a deep interpretation of ransomware literature. In this study, a complete taxonomy of ransomware and counteractions against them as well as possible methods of its spread and distribution is discussed. Articles were mainly taken from reputed journals. The study of existing frameworks helped to produce a literature summary. Future researchers may carefully observe the literature gap to work on lacking areas. One of the main contributions of this study to provide a few still open problems in the field of Android stealth malware.
