Vapour Adsorption Refrigeration System
Abstract
Solar thermal adsorption refrigeration systems use solar energy to produce refrigeration effect.
This system enables us to provide air conditioning and refrigeration in remote places. Most common
refrigerants used in solar adsorption refrigeration systems are water and silica gel. Being noiseless, noncorrosive
and environmentally friendly, there is lots of research going on to increase the efficiency to attain
performance equal to vapour compression refrigeration system. This project focuses on the experimental
study of the single-stage adsorption system. The system is tested with a working pair of silica gel-water in
VIT campus, Vellore (12.9718° N, 79.1589° E). The novel design consists of an evacuated tubular collector
(ETC), which is used the adsorbent bed, and a copper tube with fins and 1 mm wide holes are inserted in
ETC to facilitate the passage of the refrigerant
