Abstract

In this paper, a Voltage Controlled Ring Oscillator (VCRO) for circuit level implementation, is intended for low power medical imaging application.  A cardiology medical device with a frequency range of 300-310 MHz is proposed.  Using an array of ultrasonic transducer, a 2*1 matrix analysis is designed.  By using different stages of VCRO with odd number of inverters the target frequency band is obtained and is compared on the basis of oscillation frequency (fosc), average power dissipation (Pavg), propagation delay (?d).  The proposed circuit configuration is to be realized in 180 nm CMOS technology and the entire chip functionality has been simulated and analyzed with Cadence tools. It is suggested that a 2*1 matrix combination offers better performance which is evident from the careful analysis of the ring oscillators performance evaluation of different parameters.
