Abstract

An accident that involved the dangerous materials such as chemical leaking, gas
release and blast caused by the natural disaster is called as Natech. Flood, landslide and
earthquake are the annual natural disasters that always strike Malaysia. However, there is high
potential for the technological disaster in the future. This is because the number of dams are
increasing in Sabah whereby the technological hazard can occur due to the number of
earthquake event is increasing. Thus, before the hazardous disaster take place, it is the best way
for the community who are the first person affected by the disaster to be aware, trained and
have systematic communication to manage the emergency when it is needed. The objective for
this article is to determine the influence of awareness, training and communication on
emergency management among community in Sabah mediated by risk perception. This
research is using descriptive research design to get the finding. This study is using books,
journals and previous studies as the data collection method. The findings for this study
indicates that awareness, training and communication has influenced on emergency
management decision mediated by risk perception. Hence, this study recommended the
community to always aware on any emergency either natural or technological disaster and be
prepared by being involved in emergency training and always have a systematic medium for
communication during the emergency.
