Abstract

Many costal aquifers are facing around the world saltwater intrusion. With progressive increase of population and civilized industrialized world water consumption is increasing and there is an unbalanced pumping out-replenishment rate. On the other side self-introduction of salt water from sea make the problem more complicated and challenged. Our strategy is first to develop a numerical computer program in C++ and MATLAB for the Finite Element Method for contouring saltwater intrusion front in time and space and then to decide for the appropriate strategy under dynamic optimization of well placement and their rates, imposing directly as boundary conditions the stochastic atmospheric ones  from another plug in program. Our method is robust and from other side is flexible allowing for different scenarios of pollution and site description
