An Enhanced Lightning Search Algorithm for Optimal Sizing of DSTATCOM and PV Array in Distribution Systems

Abstract

Increase in demand of electrical energy makes necessitate the growth of power grids. The optimal sizing of energy devices is a vital role in distribution system to reduce power losses, improve voltage profile values and to meet voltage instabilities and reliability problems. To overcome these problems, Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) and Photo Voltaic (PV) array has been used in electric distribution networks. Optimal size of DSTACOM and PV array should be determined based on economic viability and reliability. Enhanced Lightning Search Algorithm (ELSA) has been formulated using MATLAB toolbox with the objective function of optimal size of the proposed system. The proposed method is tested on standard IEEE 30-bus radial distribution systems. To demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed system, it has been compared with three more cases. After the evaluation of four cases, the proposed system is effectual has been demonstrated through the outcomes.
