Design, Modelling, Stability and Dynamical Performance Analysis of Positive Output Voltage Lift Luo Converter at Maximum Power Point Tracking Application in Solar Photovoltaic System

Abstract

In solar photovoltaic systems, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller is used to tract the dynamically varying maximum power point to extract maximum power from solar array to the load connected. In this paper, voltage lift positive output Luo converter is proposed for impedance matching in solar photovoltaic maximum power point tracking. Boost mode of Luo converter uplift the input voltage with high voltage gain ratio. The design and simulation of 48 W resistive load solar PV application is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink environment with constant output voltage 48V. Stability analysis of Luo converter is performed to identify the operating range of duty cycle of Luo converter for maximum power point tracking. Most popular incremental conductance MPPT algorithm is used for the evaluation of performance of Luo converter. Simulation results revealed that Luo converter gives the best result with a low output voltage ripple in the load with very low peak-over shoot at standard test condition. Based the results the proposed positive output Luo converter based MPPT is suggested for photovoltaic applications.
