Abstract

This paper manages the designing and application of a security system to prevent theft in Automated Teller Machine
(ATMs), because of increasing number of ATM related crime around world. The existing security system in ATMs
such as security guard and the surveillance camera are inadequate to provide safety to the ATMs. So, this paper
aims to tackle this drawback found in existing security measures for the ATMs. By using the proposed scheme the
ATM crimes which include breaking the machine by different methods such as by use of hammer, welding, etc. and
running away with the money or machine can be prevented. The skimming fraud i.e. applying a camouflaged device
on the card reader which saves the user’s card number and pin can be eliminated. If the security is breached
thief/thieves will be locked inside by automatic closing of door & also they will be made unconscious by releasing
gas in the room. The alert message with the locality of the ATM will be sent to the nearby police station and also to
the respective bank official to ensure that the accused can be caught in no time. There is also a situation when the
machine needs to be handled by the bank official for the deposition of currency notes in the machine or for the
maintenance of the machine, so, all the security devices has to be shut down for that time. This can only be done by
an authorized person using his fingerprint. Therefore, the proposed work will enhance the security system using
MEM sensor, pressure sensor, GSM/GPS module, temperature sensor, fingerprint scanner, DC & servomotor.
