Biometrics: a review with emphasis on face recognition

Biometrics technologies have been widely adopted in various fields for identity recognition with different physiological characteristics that are unique for an individual and hard to forge by others. In recent years, the high demand for biometrics driven by the smartphone industry has flourished the wide use of fingerprint, iris, voiceprint, and face recognition. In this paper, we present a review of biometrics technologies, especially those used on smartphones. Among these technologies, we would give an emphasis on face recognition by comparing it with other technologies, analyzing its advantages and disadvantages, and pointing out the future directions of face recognition.
