A Cultural Analysis of the Chomangkan of the Karbis and of the Me-Dam-Me-Phi of the Ahoms as the Funeral Ceremony

Abstract

The Karbi and Ahoms are one of the two communities living in Assam According to anthropological opinion, the Karbis belong to the Tibetan Burmese branch under the Mongolian ethnic group and the Ahoms belong to the Shyama-china branch. Assam’s hill - bhaiyam and hilly areas they are scattered. Both Karbi-Ahom have their own pujas, festivals, ethos, religious beliefs, rituals. Birth and death events are also inside the culture. Keeping in view the scope of the study, both the tribes have been selected as a tribute to the Me-Dam-Me-Phi of Ahoms and Chomangkan of Karbi’s as a matter of discussion.
