Abstract

The environment of a person with disability has a great impact on creating barriers for inclusion within at home and
community. Turning on and off the appliances is a struggle for a physically disabled person when they’re alone in
their house, without companion it is difficult for them to turn on/off the appliances and it might turn in to human
error. To solve this kind of situation, this paper presents the developed Arduino-based Voice Recognition Home
Appliance Control System using a mobile application that can be connected via Bluetooth or Voice Recognition to
control the appliances. The main target users are the Persons with Disability (PWD), however, it is also applicable
to Housekeeper and Tech-savvy people. The proponents used Android Studio in developing the app and Arduino IDE
to program the microcontroller to receive the signals coming from the mobile app. The mobile application is
applicable only for android version jelly bean and above. The system has been tested and demonstrated that the
system was integrated and well-functioning. The aim of this project has been achieved successfully, however, for
further improvements the study should be able to handle high electric current appliances.
