Abstract

In recent years, the concept of the Internet of Things has been emerging rapidly, making it easy for users to connect
to any device. Integrating this concept into the electrical energy monitoring system can effectively conserve home
electrical energy consumption. Thus, this work proposed a prototype that monitors the energy consumption of a
particular appliance that can be accessed through a mobile application. In addition, Internet of Things (IoT) system
and Weighted Moving Average (WMA) model was used in the development of the prototype. The Arduino Uno
microcontroller, Ethernet Shield and Power Analyzer MK II are used to perform the specific task required. The
Arduino Uno microcontroller collects, computes and transmits data and acts as the main brain of the system, while
the Ethernet shield allows the Arduino to connect to the Internet, and the AC Power Analyzer MK II acts as a sensor
for collecting the required parameters. The prototype monitors the electrical energy consumption of home
appliances and calculates the estimated electricity bill. In addition, a mobile application is made to display the
content provided. The phone will remain connected to the monitoring system via the internet connection.
