Abstract

— A laboratory scale investigation on H2S adsorption performances is carried out, utilizing the
synthesis and characterization of modified commercial activated carbon (CAC) through wt. ratios of dual
chemical mixture (DCM). The synthesis of DCM adsorbents prepared with anchoring two types of metal
material on the CAC surfaces by varied the wt. ratio at 1:1 and 2:1 based on recommended wt.% of znac2 in
previous study. All the prepared adsorbents undergo SEM EDX, BET, BJH N2 adsorption analysis for
further morphology study. At the same time, the adsorbents also run for H2S adsorption performance
through 0.2 L adsorber column at ambient temperature with flowrate and pressure fixed as 5.5 L/min and 1.0
bar. Then, the H2S adsorption capacity calculated based on the breakthrough time of H2S for each
adsorbent. The modified adsorbents show longer H2S loading on the adsorbents surface where reduce the
adsorbents changing period. Besides, these performances related towards surface morphology changing that
acquire better H2S captured. Finally, the H2S adsorption capacities is improve up to 43% compared to raw
CAC, which the proposed method completely suppresses commercial CAC.
