Abstract

Work Stress is one of the most disheartening and perilous hindrance which affects the overall effectiveness of an employee. Hence it is necessary to understand the effect of work stress on work attitudes (job satisfaction (JS) and intention to quit (IQ)). The work stress specific to nurse profession was measured using dimensions like conflict with physicians, perception towards death, absence of support, workload, and encounter with peers, inadequate preparation and uncertainty regarding treatments. The research was administered among 200 nursesemployed in private hospitals. The results of multiple linear regression prove that jobbased stressors are negative predictors of job satisfaction and positive predictors of intention to quit. Implications for HR managers specific to healthcare industry are suggested.
