Linear Quadratic Regulator Based Optimal Parameter Selection Method For Motors Employed In Infusion Pump

Abstract

In this paper, the appropriate electromechanical parameters of Permanent Magnet Direct Current
(PMDC) motors of infusion pump have been identified. Speed control of PMDC motor in the medical
devices are necessary and the selection of appropriate parameters such as rotor inertia, armature resistance,
armature inductance and back electro motive force constant is needed as per medical grade devices. The
proposed work uses Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) technique to
compute the optimal parameters of two motors including 0615 motor and 1224A012. The result shows that
the quick rise time of 0.608 seconds and 0.000616 seconds are obtained with the desired speed
