Critical Review on Renewable Energy Awareness and Enhancement via Mobile Apps Exposure

Abstract

Fossil fuel is a natural resource to generate electricity but contributes to global warming and
climate change due to carbon dioxide emission during its processing. Thus, renewable energy (RE) should
be implemented as a substitute for fossil fuel to save the environment and the Earth. However, society,
especially the young generation, is unaware of the importance of RE. Public awareness campaigns and
competitions have been held to increase awareness amongst the young generation. RE knowledge especially
should be included in students’ education-based learning by focusing on the school curriculum. Thus, it can
be generally spread the RE idea structurally. Moreover, along with the development of the industrial
revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0), the student should be exposed to mobile technology, and the technology can be
implemented during teaching and learning sessions. This implementation is able to increase interest and
awareness in green technology amongst students via mobile apps exposure. This article presents a review of
RE exposure, especially the young generation and how mobile apps able to enhance awareness.
