Abstract

The article focuses on another manner of Pali language known in general called as Paheli or the
hidden meaning word which Buddhists must understand because Pali word did not contain the only one fixed
meaning in a positive or negative aspect, but it opens up the ways of expression due to the need of right
knowledge to improve oneself to realize the noble truth. The language plays a very significant role to provide
the mental formations of man's brain. A language is a tool for transforming the knowledge set of one to another
depending on the purpose of the language user especially Pali language which had been used for preserving
the authentic teaching of the Buddha and to propagate the Buddhism in the aspect of understanding and
practical details which lead to the final goal of Buddhism, that is Noble path, fruits, and Nibbana. For this
reason, the Pali students and Buddhists have to investigate in all dimensions of Pali such as language principle
and so on found in various Buddhist scriptures. The true meaning is hidden in words which contain diverse
meanings explained by a specific group of Pali texts i.e. Saddavisesa texts which help Pali students to
determine and understand the exact meaning of words correctly, for example, the word ‘Akataññ?’ which is
Pahel? translated as ‘ingratitude person’ but also containing the hidden meaning ‘Nibbana knower’ which
seems opposite from well-known meaning but the expert will notice the context of sentences. The Pali students
or Buddhists who are interested in study Pali language in advance would long for study and follow Pali
contents which will be the mental development as well.
