Abstract

In any state, the police department is regarded as one of the most critical sector for the overall
public safety. Recently, United Arab Emirates is seeing a rise in the crime rates. It seems like there are few
policies that are difficult to be enforced as there is an increase in foreign nationals living in the UAE. The
purpose of this article is to present a study on the rise in crime level in the UAE by looking specifically at
the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) department. The study was aimed to suggest mechanisms to enhance
specialized approaches in the ADP and to assess the impact of specialized approach on the ADP department.
Nearly (500) sets of structured questionnaires were distributed to the UAE police. However only 260 of the
questionnaire were discovered to be useful after information testing which represent 52% response rate.
Purposive sampling technique was adopted while structural equation modelling (SEM) was utilized to
decide the impact of influential factors on ADP department’s performance. The structural model was found
to be fitted by having significant relationship for all the four main hypotheses. It is hopeful that this research
could promote the government and Ministry of Interior to implement a far more reliable and efficient
approach to tackle accidents and criminal activities in Abu Dhabi and UAE as a whole.
