The Relationship Between Self Efficacy, Emotional Intelligence, and Social Support of Drug Addict On Relapse

Abstract

The rate of relapse among drug addict is alarming even though government provides treatment and
rehabilitation to prevent relapse happen. There are various factor or reason cause them to relapse. This study
aims to identify the relationship between self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and social support of drug
addicts on relapse. The sample consisted of 250 drug addict which were selected through the method simple
random sampling inclusion criteria from three Cure and Care Rehabilitation Centre (CCRC) in the East Coast,
Malaysia. Four research instruments were used in this study, a set of questions for the demographic
background of the sample, General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES), Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS),
Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) and Drug Relapse Scale (DRS). Data for this
study were analysed by using Pearson Correlation. This study discovered that there was significant negative
correlation between self-efficacy, emotional intelligence and social support with drug addict on relapse.
Implication for drugs counselling are also discussed.
