Abstract

In this review article authors have tried to describe and comprehend the types of injuries and their
outcome due to the impact or trauma caused by kinetic impact projectiles which includes rubber and plastic
bullets. The impact injury pattern and severity depends on material composition, shape, no, muzzle velocity and
the flight path of the projectile. All projectile weapons function by transferring kinetic energy from a weapon
into the body of an individual. The observation and types of injuries caused by such bullets have been adopted
from the prominent articles published earlier. It is an attempt to further to summarize the vast data published in
scores of articles and research papers published in different journals from different countries. An attempt has
been made to mention the historic background of rubber and plastic bullets, their impact factor and trauma
caused by them. It is important to mention that contrary to the belief that these bullets are non-lethal they may
result in the death of the person in certain circumstances. This is because either the proper firing distance or the
directions of the firing which must be below the abdomen were not kept in mind by the firing law enforcing
persons.
