Abstract

The deployment of smart technologies in the industries reflects the paradigm transition towards
Industry 4.0. As the utility of smart materials caters the diverse needs of the users, the manufacturing sectors
are on the verge of creating a smart world with the applications of smart materials possessing versatile
attributes. The production of various kinds of smart materials is in the progressive phase that puts the
industrial sectors amidst the challenge of optimal selection of desirable materials. This paper proposes a
decision-making approach of smart material selection out of ten alternatives subjected to four criteria using
the multi-criteria decision-making method of COPRAS in the linguistic neutrosophic environment. This
decision-making method will certainly assist the decision-makers to handle uncertainty as the criterion
satisfaction of the alternatives are represented as linguistic variables which are later quantified using triangular
neutrosophic numbers.
