Comparing radiographic images for evaluating osteoporosis in Postmenopausal women

Abstract

Osteoporosis is an abnormality diseases described by decrease in quality and bone minerals, which generally cause to weak skeleton and unexpected developed fracture risk. In India, it is observed that the findings and analysis of osteoporosis cases is very hard in number because of inadequate and insufficient availability of the standard scanning equipments and unbearable cost of the scanning. The present observations were made on the bone mineral density (BMD) measurements using the devices such as quantitative ultrasound (QUS), dual x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) and peripheral DXA (pDXA) or Singh Index on X-ray images. Because of easy availability of x-ray and CT scan image at lesser cost for geometrical analysis or structural analysis and micro-structure of the bone will be helpful in evaluating osteoporosis. Hence, the computer aided diagnosis (CAD) system for x-ray and computed tomography (CT) images using a novel trabecular enrichment approach (TEA) are being advised for evaluating osteoporosis.
