Abstract

This study aimed to determine the social and demographic characteristics of vulnerable communities on the outskirts of Yogyakarta City using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that based on the social parameters, measured with the variables of education level, landholding status, and land legality status, the native population had a higher risk of being marginalized by the regional development. The demographic parameters, represented by the variables of the area of origin, age, and household members, also confirmed that they were relatively more at risk of experiencing marginalization than the migrants.
