Abstract

Online teaching or teaching to the geographically distributed students is not a new concept. Most of the
institutions are adopting the online mode of teaching in one way or other. But with the advent of the
COVID 19 pandemic, most of the education institutions are closed worldwide. This situation has forced
the teachers to abruptly shift from classroom teaching to screen based teaching. Teachers should
basically understand the fact that online teaching is not teaching to the screen, but it is teaching through
the screen. The pattern of information flow form teacher to the taught will be interrupted and influenced
by various factors. The Learning Management System (LMS) of each and every institution plays a vital
role in regulating the online teaching and learning environment. The effectiveness of online teaching
depends upon the readiness of the teacher to teach online and the effectiveness of online learning
involves the readiness of the students to learn through online. The ultimate responsibility lies with the
management of the educational institutions to provide a conducive environment for virtual teaching and
learning. The success depends upon the mutual agreement and cooperation between the teacher, students
and the management of the educational institutions
