Impacts of Urban Expansion on Surrounding Household Farmer Areas and Urban Social Service Challenges: The case of Bule Hora Town, Oromia, Ethiopia.

Abstract

The main objective of this study was to assess the impacts of urban expansion on surrounding farmer
household areas and urban social service challenges casing Bule Hora Town. The data were obtained
from 67 samples selected by simple random through employing questionnaires and from key informants
interview, governmental, field observation and secondary source of data was also incorporated. To
analysis the data, the researchers tabulated the collected data and the qualitative data were analyzed by
employing descriptive analysis method. The result bare that there are various factors causing urban
expansion to surrounding household farmer areas at Bule Hora Town: like founding of market,
infrastructure, rural to urban migration and positive consequences of urban expansion such as advance in
eclectic power, water supply, health and education facilities, and also negative consequences of urban
expansion for instance loss of agricultural land, expansions of crimes, urban pollution and housing
problems. To control the impacts of urban expansion that found in the town the participation of
administration and dwellers of the municipality are very necessary to play a pivotal role on the life of
household at the peripheral of the urban and to clearly state the main problems of social services at the
Bule Hora Town.
