Abstract

This This paper presents a novel corner defected ultra wideband (U.W.B-3.1 to 10.6 GHz)  rectangular patch antenna with upper edge corners and lower edge corners are square and arc truncated with a partial ground plane to enhance the bandwidth and suitable for UWB and X-band applications exhibiting a fractional bandwidth (F.B.W) of 141.17%(2-15 GHz). By defecting the corners, the bandwidth (B.W) can be increased. A partial ground plane in the back of FR-4 substrate is used to improve the matching characteristics. This corner defected patch (C.D.P), which is on the top of dielectric substrate, was excited by a 50 Ohm microstrip line. The proposed antenna was designed and simulated by using computer simulation technology (CST). The performance of the antenna can be evaluated by return loss (S11< -10 dB), voltage standing wave ratio (V.S.W.R < 2), gain (G < 5dB), radiation patterns (Omni-directional), and bandwidth .The measured and simulated results of the desired antenna were compared , and they show good agreement.
