Abstract

Polymers have been widely used in electrical insulation applications, due to their excellent properties such as high electrical resistance and breakdown strength, less dielectric loss, light weight and tunable flexibility compared to ceramic and glass materials. In this paper, polymeric composite materials, prepared from Unsaturated Polyester Resin (UPR). The effect of adding micro Alumina Trihydrate (ATH) filler (0%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60%) by weight to UPR on some electrical and thermal properties of composite materials was studied. The flashover voltage and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of micro ATH/UPR composites were found to improve significantly. To predict the best ATH filler content that improves flashover voltage characteristics of UPR composites, the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) has been used. The results showed that the values of flashover voltage and TGA increase, as the concentration of ATH filler increase.
