Abstract

In order to study the scale of subway network, complexity rate and coverage rate indicators are proposed from topological perspective. Scale of 52 subway network samples are compared and analyzed based on hierarchy cluster. The 52 subway networks are classified into four category according to the complexity rate and coverage rate indicators. Shanghai subway is in the highest stage and Beijing subway is in the following stage. The methodology and results can be used by planner and manager to make strategies; the vulnerability of subway network can be preliminary estimated after the relationship between network scale and scale free, small world, and vulnerability characters explored.
