Selective Harmonic Elimination in Modified Compact Switched Capacitor Multilevel Inverter using DMPSO

Abstract

This paper presents the selective harmonic elimination (SHE) technique in photovoltaic (PV) fed seventeen level modified Compact switched Capacitor multilevel inverter (MCSCMLI) using Diversity-guided Multi-mutation Particle Swarm Optimization (DMPSO) algorithm. The proposed system consists of DC source, MCSCMLI and load. The MCSCMLI has self boosting capability and that there is no need for additional DC-DC converter and hence the efficiency of the system is improved. DMPSO is used as an optimization algorithm to eliminate the lower order harmonics. This DMPSO avoids the premature convergence and trapping into local optimum solution. The DMPSO algorithm is implemented in MCSCMLI and CSCMLI. The simulation results are compared with PSO. The control algorithm is implemented in PIC microcontroller in order to show the effectiveness of DMPSO algorithm in real time.
