Abstract

the paper is aimed at exploring the flexibility of the Photovoice qualitative data collection
approach for Mathematics Education. This approach predominantly used in the health sector, which
reviewed in this paper. Photovoice is a process whereby people can describe, identify and come out with
some possible solution to the particular problem of a certain phenomenon with the use of specific
photograph technique and analyzing the photographs with the help of interview techniques. The researchers
employed the explanatory qualitative research design. Past researches on Photovoice were analyzed and
discussed, purposely to unveil the flexibility of Photovoice in some areas of mathematics educations. The
advantages, limitations, and steps involved in conducting the approach in mathematics education were also
addressed. Some areas where the approach is applicable in mathematics educations were highlighted and
discussed. Photovoice approach is flexible including for classroom management, students’ behavior in the
mathematics classroom, students with a learning disability, among other areas
