Farmer Suicide and the Plight of their Widows in Wardha District, Maharashtra, India

Abstract

Background:- Farmer suicides have become a socio-economic concern in India Farmers are facing an enormous economic and financial crisis. Farmers opt for suicide as they cannot withstand the debt and incapability to meet medical expenses, including domestic chores. Method:-The current study attempts to explore the scenario of Indian agriculture and farmer widows to deal with both socio-economic crises. Primary data collected from Deoli Taluk from Wardha district of Maharashtra followed the descriptive design.

Results:- The result reveals that the women have faced many issues related indoor-outdoors. The suicide of men created a dual burden for the widows to deal with both socio-economic obstacles.

Conclusion:-The government and society will have to change their attitude towards agriculture and farmers then only we can expect a plan for some comprehensive concrete measures to change the present scenario.
